Troubleshooting Connectivity Issues With Your SkyTrak Launch Monitor

Connection issues with the SkyTrak Launch Monitor can sometimes happen. There are a number of reasons why this could happen, contained in the article below, are common issues and workarounds to keep enjoying your SkyTrak Launch Monitor.

 


 

I Can't Connect My SkyTrak Launch Monitor Via USB Mode.

 

  1. Check the connection between your SkyTrak Launch Monitor and the USB port on your Windows PC to ensure both are fully plugged in with a firm connection.
  2. Try different USB ports on your Windows PC to see if the issue is the port.
  3. Check the cord with different devices to test if the issue is the cord.
    • Some Bluetooth earphones, streaming devices, and digital cameras utilize the Micro-USB cable which works with the original SkyTrak.
    • Most newer small electronics use the USB-C cord, which connects to the SkyTrak+.
    • If you do not have any other devices that use the same connector, simply try plugging the SkyTrak Launch Monitor into a USB Power Adapter to check if it is charging the SkyTrak.

 

If you find that the cord is not working, you will need to replace it to utilize the USB Mode. Be sure to keep any cord you choose to a maximum of 15' to ensure proper power and data transfer between your SkyTrak Launch Monitor and Windows PC. In the meantime, you can connect your SkyTrak to any of your devices using either the Direct or Network Connections. Instructions on how to set up these connections are available here.

 


 

I Can't Connect Via Network or Direct Mode.

 

Please first evaluate the following scenarios to see if any of these conditions are true:

  1.  Your Network is a 5G network and you have an Original SkyTrak, not the SkyTrak+. 
    • If so, please refer to your owners manual of your modem/router or your contact your Internet provider to find out how to generate a 2.4GHz (2G Network) wireless-signal.
    • The original SkyTrak can only connect to 2.4GHz band and will not connect to 5G.
  2.  Already reset your SkyTrak Launch Monitor?
    • If not, click here
  3.  Ensure your SkyTrak app is up to date. The SkyTrak app runs a background check for the most current version every time you start it.
  4.  If you are trying to connect the SkyTrak Launch Monitor to a PC/Windows-based machine, verify under "power management settings" is set to "high performance mode".

 

 If the above scenarios are non-applicable or have been performed, please proceed with the following instructions:

  1.  Verify that your SkyTrak Launch Monitor is off. 
  2.  Plug one end of the micro-USB cable into SkyTrak Launch Monitor or USB-C cable into your SkyTrak+ and the other end into a PC. Verify that your PC is turned on.
  3.  Open the SkyTrak app on chosen device, log in, choose USB mode and let it search for a connection.
  4.  Turn on SkyTrak Launch Monitor. 
  5.  After a few moments, the LEDs on your SkyTrak Launch Monitor should all be green.

 

Additional Tips:

  •  Insert the USB cable before turning on SkyTrak Launch Monitor and opening the app.
  •  Consider purchasing "APC/UPS" (automatic power conditioner/uninterruptable power supply) for improved-electrical setup and less potential for signal noise which causes interference with a Wi-Fi signal. 
  •  Verify power management settings on the PC/WIN (if applicable). Set PC power settings in high performance mode.
  •  Go to the device manager (PC/WIN).
    • Proceed to "USB serial bus controllers" and then right-click on "USB root hub" and select "properties".
      • Click on the power management tab, untick the box saying, "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
        • Make sure this is done for the correct USB port as there might be more than one.
  •  Verify that the most recent Microsoft Visual C++ Framework is installed on a WINDOWS-only machine.

 


 

The connection work at first but then keeps dropping.

  • Install one or more Wi-Fi extenders or move the modem if possible.
  • A dropped connection could also be a symptom of the PC shutting off power to the SkyTrak USB port. If so:  
    1. Go to the device manager (PC/WIN).
    2. Proceed to "USB serial bus controllers" and then right-click on "USB root hub" and select "properties".
    3. Click on the power management tab, untick the box saying, "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
    4. Make sure this is done for the correct USB port as there might be more than one.
